About Me

Greetings my royal sisters and brothers!

Again, I’m so glad you have decided to be a part of my scripture memory class! Please continue to read more about my story.

I have served as an inner city public school teacher, principal and instructional specialist.  For the last seven years of my 30 year tenure,  I have served as the instructional and spiritual leader at the City of Baton Rouge Juvenile detention center.  It was the last seven years of my 30 year tenure that revived my love for memorizing God’s word.   Throughout the seven years, I have stressed to my students the importance of knowing and believing the word of God.  I have told them that if they truly want to change their lives they must know, believe, and abide in the word of God.   I witnessed change in my students.  I was not surprised.  I was surprised, however, by the change I witnessed  in my life.

Once I began to spend more time devising creative ways to ensure my students memorized the word of God, I inevitably memorized more of the word also.  I realized my reactions and subsequent behaviors began to change.   When I became anxious, the words of Philippians 4 would almost immediately remind me to be anxious for nothing.  When I was impatient or rude, I would quickly be convicted by the words of I Corinthians 13.  “Love is patient. Love is kind.”  Also, when I just needed assurance because I feared the report of cancer test results or the uncertainty of a financial or career decision, the words of Psalm 91 comforted me. “He has commanded His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts or worrying for days, my mind immediately recalled the words I had memorized, and I began to meditate on those words.   Anxiety, doubt, and fear were quickly met with the comfort of scripture.  My sleepless nights  grew shorter, then they became nonexistent.   I arrived at peace with all situations much more quickly.  I was able to meditate on words that reminded me of  God’s omnipotence, omniscience, and omni-presence.  These thoughts were accompanied by thoughts of His enduring love for me and His promises for my peace and success if I trust in Him with all my heart.

So,  whether you feel you need a big change as my juvenile detention students would share, or  as with me, you just need to level up your trust in God, I invite you to pursue a scripture memory lifestyle.  No matter how long you have walked in the faith, you will always experience the presence of negative and discouraging thoughts.  The key is to stop dwelling on these negative thoughts.  You must take control of your thoughts and dwell on the truth provided in God’s word.  I can testify that memorizing scripture is a guaranteed way to truly hide the word in your heart, meditate on it day and night, experience the ultimate growth in faith, and consequently receive the  utmost in blessings, peace and joy God has planned for you here on earth.
